Corvettes Featured at Special Events

The D. J. Race team has been pleased to attend many special shows and school events during the past few months.

Three driver schools encompassing one hundred plus drivers enjoyed learning more about their Corvettes as well as having the opportunity to ride for an exciting lap in the D. J. Race Corvette. Learning for the first time about cornering, braking, apexing and proper track lines are all important performance skills, but learning for the first time and executing for the first time is a real thrill. Requests for additional schools have been made by many of the first time students.

D. J. Race Ent. has provided alignment schools for various auto crossers and race enthusiasts. This full day program has provided a full schedule of alignment, chassis setup and provides the complete details from tire pressures to wedge or corner weights. Hospitality "Fan Involvement" Programs have been planned again for this year providing Corvette Fans a first hand look at club racing at its best. These special days at the track provide a Corvette corral and a special track tour and noon track laps. A seminar on Sat. afternoon provides a technical look at the Corvette and the racing scene. A special door prize drawing tops off the special weekend. And a great time will be had by all the Fan Involvement participants.

One hospitality event will be held on July 19-20 at the Waterford Hills raceway. This event is the joint SCCA-Waterford Hills Regional event. This hospitality event was added to the D. J. Race schedule when Jeff Cauley of Cauley Chevrolet and Danny Kellermeyer of D. J. Race Ent. were discussing the Corvette enthusiasm in the MI-Ohio Area. With all this interest we really need to do a Hospitality Fan Involvement locally. Since the Touring Challenge for Corvette was not having a race in the Michigan area, the SCCA-Waterford Hills regional was the perfect event.

Our plans kept expanding as Southern Motors of Pontiac (leader in clean street rods and muscle cars), joined in to make this event really special. It was the FREE ENTRY to all that topped of the final touches. Drive in with your Corvette, and that is your free entry ticket. If you can't bring your Corvette, you can download your free ticket on the D. J. Race Ent. website. The anticipated participation may be overwhelming as clubs as far as Illinois are planning to come over to the event.

The D. J. Race Team once again dominated both regional races at the Memorial day Double Regional at Grattan Raceway. The #27 C4 race machine was driven by the team owner and the three time TCC Champion Danny Kellermeyer from Ortonville, Michigan. The #15 C5 race machine was driven by the three time TCC Champion Robert Pfeffer from Indianapolis, Indiana. Robert has always been a tough competitor and his C5R kit car has dominated the past seasons.
The race weekend started out on a down note as Danny's new C5 engine expired during the Fridays practice session. A simple miscalculation of not leaving enough clearance on the valve to piston clearance was all it took. The car was replaced with the C4 previous Championship car which went on to win Saturdays race with Robert coming in 2nd. Sundays race found the C4 setting a new lap record, but the initial fast laps paid a toll as Robert ran a smart race and past Danny with 2 laps to go.
